The Downtime Girl

First blog post of 2015

The downtime girl. Yep, you know who she is. The girl that you know will always answer your text, Facebook message, or phone call. She's the girl that you talk to when you feel lonely. The girl you talk to when you are feeling down and perhaps a little low on self esteem. She brings you up, makes you feel good about yourself, and entertains you. She's the girl who will talk to you for hours. Not necessarily because she doesn't have anything better to do, but because she cares about everyone. She loves her friends without fail. She'll make you laugh. She'll make you think. Sometimes, she'll make you realize things about yourself that you've never known.
She'll think she's made a friend. Unfortunately, that's not always the case. Downtime is eventually over and communication turns from "Hi, how you are you?" to "Sorry, gotta go." Then it stops altogether. Sometimes, it's a few weeks....others a few months. Sometimes there are random Facebook comments and "likes", but no more lengthy conversations. Sometimes not another word is thrown her way. Sometimes it's gradual. Sometimes it's a sudden stop. Sometimes she doesn't even get to know why.
When she sends you a message, it's because you've crossed her mind and she's wondering how you are. Doesn't mean she's in love with you or anything. She's just trying to reach out to someone she thought was a friend. She'll be genuinely happy for your happiness. She'll keep your secrets, even if you no longer speak to her; because that's the kind of person she is. She knows people will come in and out of her life. She just wishes some people would stay a little longer.

It's lonely being that girl.

I have to stop being that girl.
